CRIME NEWS

  • Minot Police, working with the Ward County Narcotics Task Force, arrested two men—ages 24 and 21—on felony charges for supplying fentanyl linked to overdose incidents reported on March 16 in southeast Minot.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Prairie High School's speech team, started three years ago, reached state level success when all eight seniors qualified for state and the team placed third at the competition. Coach Paula Rauschenberger said the program will expand after the seniors graduate (the team built valuable public speaking skills).  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Monday night’s Minot City Council meeting, officials discussed four options for changing the current liquor license cap, with proposals ranging from keeping the cap unchanged to removing it and setting a purchase price — council members, including a former official and local liquor owners, shared concerns about the impact and agreed to continue the discussion on Sept. 2. This debate focused on balancing market entry for new businesses while protecting existing owners.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot International Airport is seeking 50 to 100 volunteers for an emergency exercise in June per FAA guidelines; volunteers will attend an 8 a.m. safety briefing on June 13, children may join with a guardian, and the airport will show activity on both the secure + public sides while scenario details remain confidential.  KFYR-TV
  • Officials activated the State Emergency Operations Center to coordinate the response to widespread fires across North Dakota—emergency teams worked to direct resources and protect affected communities.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot International Airport will hold a full-scale emergency exercise on June 13 to meet FAA guidelines for a triennial drill—volunteers are needed to assist with the event and the public may see morning activity on the public and secure sides. Those who volunteer must attend an 8 a.m. safety briefing, wear closed-toe shoes and long pants, and will enjoy a light lunch following the 11 a.m. action report.  Minot Daily News
