  • In April, the Minot Area Community Foundation board approved grant awards totaling $360,283 to support local programs that enrich quality of life. Grantees include Camp Bentley, Chevron 4-H Club, FFA Chapter & other community organizations.  Minot Daily News

  • An executive from Applied Digital met with business leaders in Minot to tout North Dakota's strong energy output after the company began plans for a data center in Oliver County (a signal of the state's growing tech interest).  KFYR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Minot’s well-known clown Ken 'Dizzy the Clown' Gillespie will be honored for over 50 years of entertaining at the Northwest Shrine Circus, held Thursday-Saturday at the All Seasons Arena; he will receive special recognition during the 6 p.m. show on Saturday (May 9).  Minot Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Carl Frisinger, 96, the last member of the crew that struck oil near Tioga in 1951 (a discovery that reshaped the state's economy) recalled his early days drilling and explained how methods evolved from trucks to pipelines. North Dakota now produces over 1 million barrels daily, reflecting that historic influence.  KFYR-TV
  • Gas prices in North Dakota have risen as the average reaches $4.08 per gallon — more than 30 cents up from last week and a dollar above last year. Representative Fedorchak said increased Bakken production may help stabilize prices when the conflict in Iran ends.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Minot High School FBLA members attended the state leadership conference from March 29 to 31, where over 60 chapters competed in business skills events. The school was recognized for having the largest chapter, and Joy Jiang was elected as state FBLA Parliamentarian.  Minot Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, KFYR+ streams a special documentary on last summer's record 82 tornadoes in North Dakota — it shows how satellites, drones, and cell phone footage helped meteorologists detect weak, brief tornadoes.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, May 5, Ward County commissioners met to review measures for boosting alcohol safety at the State Fair after a complaint about underage drinking at M and S Concessions—officials discussed mandatory ID scanner use, signage, and data privacy concerns while M and S planned to delete scanner data after the fair.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot City Transit announced seasonal adjustments to bus routes due to a construction project - east, southeast, west and northwest routes are following detours that started this week to maintain service.  Minot Daily News
  • Gov. Kelly Armstrong signed an executive order declaring an emergency for commercial drivers hauling agricultural inputs to ease fertilizer shortages during the crop planting season. The order, effective today and lasting 14 days (road safety rules remain in effect), aims to support timely deliveries for farmers.  Minot Daily News
