COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Letter carriers in Minot will collect nonperishable food items on Saturday, May 9 as part of a national drive returning after the pandemic. Postal customers should place food items in bags by their mailboxes for pickup and delivery to a local food bank.  Minot Daily News
  • Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4 has planned several veterans events from May 6 to May 25. The schedule features DAV Coffee sessions, free lunches, peer support meetings, flag placement, and a Memorial Day ceremony at various local venues + additional support services.  Minot Daily News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • North Dakota produced 1.129 million barrels of oil a day in February, a small rise from January, & natural gas output also increased from 3.323 to 3.392 billion cubic feet as reported by the Department of Mineral Resources. Active rigs in the state numbered 26.  Minot Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Julie Garden-Robinson of North Dakota State University Extension (guiding local shoppers) said that even as food prices increase nearly 3%, anyone can cut waste by planning meals, freezing extra groceries, and composting (Stop Food Waste Day on April 30 served as a reminder to protect budgets and the environment).  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced over $12 million in federal funds for programs across North Dakota — including $4.56 million for Minot Public School District Head Start initiatives, $3.77 million for Turtle Mountain Band programs, and $3.67 million for UND rural healthcare support.  Minot Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services reported declines in influenza, COVID-19 and RSV cases statewide based on data from the week ending April 25. Lower counts and hospitalizations were observed compared to the previous week, and figures remain subject to revision.  Minot Daily News
