ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Spring has arrived and wild turkeys are now seen in greater numbers along the Souris River corridor in Minot. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 2, lawmakers passed House Bill 1176 in both chambers and sent it to Governor Armstrong’s desk, with the bill offering up to $1,600 in primary residence tax credits and capping local levy increases at 3% per year. The measure also removes the requirement for homeowners to pay a quarter of their taxes if the credit fully covers their burden—aimed at reducing property tax pressures.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot City Council will hold a public hearing Monday at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall to review proposed changes to the alcohol ordinance — removing the cap on retail liquor licenses could cost the city between $2 million and $4 million if current holders are compensated.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot’s Souris Basin Planning Council said on Friday that nearly $400 million in AmeriCorps grant cuts will force local programs to end volunteer roles early and stop benefits, hurting community projects.
