  • Minot Area Chamber EDC announced that $110,197 was raised at the Prairie Warrior Auction on April 24 to support Minot Air Force Base personnel through live and silent auction items, table sales, event games and cash donations—proceeds will fund morale-boosting activities and the Home for the Holidays program. Local sponsors, including Verendrye Electric Cooperative, helped boost the funds, showing strong community support.  Minot Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Dakota Territory Air Museum, on the northeast corner of Minot International Airport, was started in 1986 as part of the Centennial celebration and has grown with additions like the Elker Wing and the Flying Legends Hangar dedicated July 4th. It raises funds with an annual sweepstakes and displays historic items including a replica of the Wright Flyer built for the 100th Anniversary of flight — a nod to its rich aviation legacy.  Northern Sentry

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New data from the Organic Farming Research Foundation shows there are 113 organic farms on 106,000 acres that generate $19 million in annual sales as North Dakota still lags behind the national average in organic agriculture—consumer demand is driving growth through increased research investments and expanded local processing. EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new law banning cell phone use during class will take effect on August 1 and North Dakota school officials say it will help students focus during lessons. Leaders from Minot Public Schools and Glenburn Public School say the rule offers clear guidance for teachers, students and families.  Northern Sentry

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Airman 1st Class Wesley Davies shared his experience growing up on Minot Air Force Base where his father served in the Navy—his time overseas, involvement in sports, and constant moves shaped his values and future plans—as he looks to continue a legacy of service.  Northern Sentry
  • Minot military families will face a split approach for moving costs as Minot AFB is kept out of the new Global Household Goods Contract during peak PCS season from May 15 until August 31—this means families planning self-directed moves will have costs calculated differently while those using the legacy system may see more traditional reimbursement estimates. Service members are advised to contact their local Traffic Management Office as soon as they receive orders to ensure proper planning.  Northern Sentry
  • Capt. Shane Knowles at Minot Air Force Base was named USSTRATCOM Company Grade Officer of the Year on April 23rd for supervising weapon system instruction and operations training for 240 officers — his leadership improved tactics and readiness in missile operations during a time of increased global competition.  Northern Sentry
