COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 2nd Annual Minot 5/6 Fishing Tournament will be held at Lake Darling (in the Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge) on Saturday, May 16 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is open for teams and individuals and includes 50 volunteer spots.  Northern Sentry
  • A1C Sophia McMahon has worked for three months at Dakota Inn Dining Facility managing nearly 600 meals daily—she trains new Airmen and boosts the unit's service quality.  Northern Sentry

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Proof & Petals opened last month at the Base Exchange at Minot AFB and is hosting its grand opening today. Owner Madison Edmonds, an Air Force veteran, plans to expand the boutique shop with workshops and a subscription service in the future.  Northern Sentry

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local Motives announced the inaugural Levitt AMP Minot Music Series for summer, offering 10 weeks of free outdoor concerts at Citizens Alley. The series will feature national, regional & local artists with a weekly Minot Area Council of the Arts presence hosting interactive art activities.  Minot Daily News
  • Magic City Discovery Center offers its new Light Lab on the second floor, where kids can explore interactive displays that turn darkness into color. The gallery features hands-on activities like the Aurora Maker + Pendulux to spark creative learning in science and art.  Northern Sentry

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Negotiators from Minot Public Schools and the teachers’ union will meet Sunday at 2 p.m. at the MPS administrative building to finalize a new contract following recent talks, with final votes held in public.  KFYR-TV
  • Ryan Chevrolet named Mr. Fricke of Memorial Middle School as March Teacher of the Month — he is known for inspiring active health habits among his students. Nominations for future honorees are open to celebrate more local educators.  Northern Sentry

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Task Force 21, a group of volunteers with BRAC experience, supports modernization efforts at Minot Air Force Base (including the new Sentinel Missile System and local facility upgrades set to begin in 2027) to strengthen our national security.  Northern Sentry
  • The U.S. House passed the Farm Bill yesterday by a vote of 224 to 200, updating crop insurance and prices as Representative Fedorchak said it gives farmers needed certainty; the bill now moves to the Senate with a separate E-15 vote planned for May.  KFYR-TV
  • Remaining construction on the U.S. 83 culvert replacement in Minot will resume Monday, May 4 as U.S. 83/Broadway is reduced to one lane each way (lane restrictions are expected to last about two weeks). The North Dakota Department of Transportation urges motorists to drive safely.  Minot Daily News
  • The 5th Munitions Squadron was named May’s Squadron of the Month after finishing 545 explosive ops (207 munitions assembled, 901 flight hours, and 180 combat training sorties) and supporting Exercise Global Thunder. They also conducted 3,000 inspections in sub-zero temperatures to ensure the Wing remains ready.  Northern Sentry
  • The House passed a full five-year Farm Bill today on a 224-200 vote with bipartisan support. The law locks in higher reference prices, strengthens crop insurance & supports local conservation and financing options for producers.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot civic leader Randy Burckhard received the Commander’s Award for Public Service on Tuesday, April 28 at the North Dakota Nuclear Triad Symposium in Minot. He was honored for his work with the Air Force Global Strike Command Civic Leader Program from 2010 to 2025 and for mentoring his successor.  Minot Daily News
