COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The North Dakota Community Foundation is marking 50 years of service (50 years) by awarding over $134 million in grants to support local projects statewide. The nonprofit now manages more than 1,000 funds and will keep helping groups meet community needs.  Minot Daily News
  • Pool operators are following a new aquatics code by increasing lifeguard staffing. The Minot Family YMCA has ramped up its training program (adding new lifeguards) to meet requirements, and Minot Park District updated staffing at Roosevelt Park for the 2026 pool season.  Minot Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • M.L. Berg from Minot examines early mail routes that connected Fort Stevenson and Fort Totten in 1867 along the Missouri River, showing that carriers faced dangerous passages like the Dog Den and later relied on a safer Mouse River Valley stage for the 120-mile journey.  Minot Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from area high schools have been chosen to attend the North Dakota Leadership Seminar at the University of Jamestown from May 29-31. They were selected for their leadership skills and community service to gain insights from local business and community leaders.  Minot Daily News
  • North Dakota Parks and Recreation opens summer day camp registrations on May 1 at 9 a.m. for expanded sessions at five parks (including Lake Metigoshe, Turtle River, Fort Abraham Lincoln, Icelandic, and Pembina Gorge) that will provide outdoor learning, history, and nature exploration.  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ward County Emergency Management announced that beginning May 11, Minot Central Dispatch will conduct audible tests for the outdoor warning system at 9:30 a.m. on the second and last Monday of each month; the May test will shift to Tuesday (May 26) to avoid Memorial Day ceremonies.  Minot Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • West Oaks Animal Hospital in Minot will close on June 26, leaving pet owners with one option in the city as Pinkerton Animal Hospital is accepting new patients with long wait times. Several clinics outside Minot and emergency care in Fargo remain available — owners should prepare for delayed appointments.  KFYR-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • ND Housing Finance Agency awarded 15 partners who promoted affordable homeownership programs last year. The awards honored loan officers, real estate agents and lenders (including Amy Rogers from Brokers 12 in Minot) for guiding first-time buyers to low-cost financing.  Minot Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Minot State softball ended on April 25 at the Wildcat Dome by splitting a doubleheader with Wayne State—Raivyn Millions’ RBI single gave the win in game two. The team will host doubleheaders against Southwest Minnesota State on May 2 and Sioux Falls on May 3 at Scheels South Hill Complex.  Minot Daily News
