COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A cherished WWII veteran (105) celebrated his birthday today at a local community gathering where family and neighbors honored his military service and lifelong contributions. The event highlighted a shared respect for history and perseverance in the community.  KFYR-TV
  • Military connected children were celebrated this month with proclamation signings at City Hall and school assemblies, and Minot AFB will host Famaganza at the Youth Center today from 5:30pm to 7:30pm (featuring an information table, tote bags, and a plant giveaway).  Northern Sentry

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Dakota Territory Air Museum in Minot will open on May 16 to showcase replicas such as the Wright Flyer and WWII warbirds in its Legends Hangar, and former fighter pilot Lt. Gen. Burt Field, CEO of the Air & Space Forces Association, took a seat in a P47 Thunderbolt.  Northern Sentry

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Joseph Langan, a resilient sophomore at Minot North High who moved nine times, joined the cross-country team weeks after arriving and quickly built lasting friendships — a testament to the community’s welcoming spirit for military kids.  Northern Sentry

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Airmen and Army National Guard soldiers completed a joint training exercise at Minot Air Force Base on Apr. 10-11 to build skills in law enforcement and base security (5 SFS and 816 MPC took part) as they prepared for future missions.  Northern Sentry
  • Today, the City of Minot announced grant funds from HUD’s CDBG program to support housing projects for low and moderate income residents. Eligible organizations must submit applications by 4:30 p.m. on May 22.  Minot Daily News
  • Chef Bo served as Executive Chef at the Dakota Inn Dining Facility for over five years while training 41 airmen in upgrade training for the 5th Bomb Wing and 91st Missile Wing, ensuring quality meals for Team Minot.  Northern Sentry

  • Minot High’s forward Jayva McKibben (recovering from a torn ACL) scored in the Majettes’ 2-0 win over Legacy on Apr. 22 at Duane Carlson Stadium, following her goal in a 1-1 draw with Mandan. The team built momentum as they prepared for the state tournament.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot North rallied with an 11-run sixth inning to beat Watford City 17-10 at Koeser Field on Tuesday, April 21. The Sentinels (6-4 overall) hosted a doubleheader with Mandan on Wednesday, April 22.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot North Sentinels showed strong spring momentum as the girls soccer team won two close games on April 9 and 11 and the softball squad swept a home doubleheader at Minot Scheels Complex, while the baseball team split a doubleheader in Williston — setting the pace for upcoming contests.  Northern Sentry
  • Minot High senior Sophia Lade won the 800m at the BPS River City Invite on Tuesday, April 21, at the MDU Resources Community Bowl — clocking 2:22.01 and beating a competitor by half a second. She also helped her relay team to a third finish, marking a strong meet performance.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot AFB won the gold medal at the Minot State Hockey Tournament held April 10-12 at Maysa arena in Minot—defeating over 30 teams from the US and Canada—with a 9-3 win in the final game.  Northern Sentry
