  • Easterseals Goodwill North Dakota has received a $25,000 grant to boost digital literacy and career training for people with disabilities. The grant — part of a national partnership — will help expand basic computer and online safety lessons in Mandan.  Minot Daily News
  • Roosevelt Park pool and pickleball courts will reopen June 5 after new water filtration system upgrades and ongoing construction for flood protection. Visitors must use Burdick Expressway to enter as Central Avenue stays closed for the summer.  KFYR-TV
  • Families affected by drunk driving are gathering to share their grief (and hope) while working to change local attitudes about drinking and driving. Organizers plan meetings in Minot soon to offer support and promote safer roads.  KFYR-TV
  • Total Nutrition in Minot kicks off a free six-week fitness challenge on April 27 where participants earn store credit by gaining muscle or losing body fat — top finishers may win prizes including a seven-day cruise while benefiting Mrs Field's Closet.  KFYR-TV
  • Alexander Public School and ND Strong of Minot received ND250 Commission grants totaling $27,442 to celebrate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence; the school gets $1,000 for a Heritage Center & State Museum trip while ND Strong will produce a documentary on beekeepers.  Minot Daily News

  • Joe’s Italian opened Monday in downtown Minot next to Prairie Sky Breads + the new eatery serves authentic pasta, pizza, and seafood from home-style recipes and is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., inviting locals to taste genuine Italian flavors.  KFYR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Minot State University will host the 36th Annual Spring Honor Dance & Powwow Celebration Week at the MSU Dome on April 24-25. The free event offers cultural education through dance competitions, hand game tournaments, STEAM Day, vendor booths & camping and hotel info.  Minot Daily News
  • McLaughlin Auctioneers has announced an online liquidation auction for Norsk Hostfest memorabilia, set to close Wednesday, May 6 at 6 p.m. Proceeds will go to the Hostfest Heritage Foundation + the auction follows the festival’s discontinuation due to rising costs and lower attendance.  Minot Daily News
  • Art in Motion will take place Friday, May 8 at 6 p.m. at Taube Museum of Art in Minot and will serve as a fundraiser for Parkinson’s and mental health awareness; artists may submit works by May 6 (featuring Lacey Holmen and Misty Hester).  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Airmen and Army National Guard soldiers completed a joint training exercise at Minot Air Force Base April 10-11 to improve law enforcement response skills including high risk stops (and installation breach responses). The exercise aimed to build lasting relationships between the 5th Security Forces Squadron and the Army’s 816th Military Police Company.  Minot Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Minot State head coach Wyatt Waselenchuk was named the ACHA Men’s Division I Coach of the Year today by peer coaches. He is the second coach from the team to win the honor.  Minot Daily News
  • Yesterday, the Minot North girls tennis team secured its first conference win with a 5-4 victory over Williston at Davidson Courts, and they will host Bismarck St. Mary’s Friday at 4:15 p.m. (venue to be confirmed by weather).  Minot Daily News
  • Minot High’s Majettes swept four singles matches against Legacy on Tuesday, Apr. 21 at Hammond Park, with Ava Thuner and eighth-grader Sydney Brown posting strong wins (6-1 and 6-2). The team will return to conference play on Thursday, Apr. 23.  Minot Daily News
