- ➤ Minot Police said a man's body was found in the Souris River near the 200 block of 1st Avenue NW (just west of the Broadway viaduct) Monday afternoon, and Minot Fire recovered the body with no obvious signs of trauma as the investigation continues. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Minot Police said they recovered the body of a deceased male from the Souris River near the 200 block of First Avenue Northwest just west of the Broadway viaduct on Monday at about 2:50 p.m. — no obvious signs of trauma were noted and the incident remains under investigation. Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Kelly Armstrong signed Senate Bill 2241 into law on Monday, creating a plan to open charter schools and making North Dakota the 47th state to allow them. Those interested in starting a charter school must apply with the Department of Public Instruction to show community support. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Minot officials said they have received 12 applications for the new police chief position and the application period will close on April 28—Capt. Dale Plessas has served as interim chief since September. KFYR-TV
- ➤ The Minot City Council voted Monday to set a special mayor election on August 5 so a new leader will fill the remaining term after former mayor Tom Ross resigned earlier this month. Four candidates, including Council Members Mark Jantzer, Rob Fuller and Paul Pitner and private citizen Josiah Roise, will have 30 days to collect 300 signatures (signatures must be dated on or after May 3) starting 94 days before the election. - ➤ Minot voters will choose their next mayor on Tuesday, Aug. 5 after the city council set the election date when enough petition signatures were gathered following mayor Tom Ross’s resignation on April 1 due to inappropriate texts sent to the city attorney—four declared candidates must collect 300 valid signatures to appear on the ballot. The city has also extended the police chief application deadline to Monday, April 28 as it looks for more candidates while Capt. Dale Plessas serves as acting chief during a nationwide search for a permanent replacement. Minot Daily News
- ➤ The Minot City Council voted down a revised measure on Monday to grant property tax exemptions to certain childcare providers. The amendment, designed to expire in Feb. 2029 and meant to address differences in tax treatment for childcare centers, failed with a 3+3 tie. KFYR-TV
- ➤ House Bill 1298 passed in the Senate and will be sent back to the House before reaching Governor Kelly Armstrong’s desk—if approved, it will raise the interstate speed limit from 75 to 80 mph and impose fines of five dollars per mile over the limit while also increasing penalty points for speeders.
