COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Four Minot-area veterans were honored by DAV Chapter 4 Commander Frank Senn at a Coffee Social on April 15 — they will board the Western ND Honor Flight from Bismarck on April 26 and return April 27 to visit memorials in Washington, D.C.  Minot Daily News
  • At the Commander’s Choice Awards banquet on April 9 at the Jimmy Doolittle Center, the David C Jones Chapter 135 honored local leaders—Ron Garcia received an Aerospace Education Fellowship and Lifetime Achievement Award, George Masters earned an Exceptional Service Award, and Jim Bowman was presented the Medal of Merit.  Northern Sentry
  • Minot Mayor Mark Jantzer was honored at the DAV Chapter 4 Coffee Social (a local event) on Wednesday, April 15 when he received a handcrafted quilt and a DAV flag for his veteran support. He answered questions from over 60 veterans and guests.  Minot Daily News
  • Seamus Holmgren is a seventh grader at Memorial Middle School on the base who has lived in Iowa, Minnesota, and Italy with his US Air Force family. He is preparing to move again later this year and says being a military child teaches him to adapt while keeping family close.  Northern Sentry

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Magic City Discovery Center opens its Creativity Studio where children explore a 900 sqft hands-on STEAM environment and express themselves freely through art + science. Visitors can find the studio on North Hill at 1545 1st St NW, where creative learning comes alive.  Northern Sentry
  • Minot State received 142 prints donated by renowned printmakers Michael Barnes and David Driesbach for the Northwest Arts Center. The collection will be used in art classes and will be displayed in an exhibit planned for 2028.  KFYR-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Defense Commissary Agency at Minot AFB now charges shoppers 5 cents for plastic and 10 cents for paper bags to help manage reduced budgets; shoppers can avoid the fee by using reusable bags plus previously purchased bags may be reused.  Northern Sentry

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bishop Ryan Catholic Schools will mark 100 years with a yearlong celebration in Minot; events include 100 Hours of Adoration from Apr. 20 to 24, alumni weekend on Jul. 30-Aug. 1, and Thanksgiving and Advent festivities that feature a community cookbook and revived St. Leo’s donuts + local traditions.  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Minot Air Force Base hosted a tour for AFA CEO Burt Field — who logged over 3,400 flying hours — as he explored the base’s history and training areas. Col Jimmy Schlabach and Col Tom Taylor led a roundtable discussing improved support for service members after lunch at Rockers.  Northern Sentry
  • North Dakota became the first non-federal entity to access unfiltered FAA radar data for drones when NDIT activated a secure feed for the statewide Vantis network. The integration supports safe beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations for emergency, agricultural, and rural services — a major milestone in aviation innovation.  Minot Daily News

  • Minot State men’s hockey head coach Wyatt Waselenchuk announced on Thursday, Apr. 16 that the Beavers will leave the MCH conference and join the American Collegiate Hockey Association as an independent team next season.  Minot Daily News
