Good morning, Minot. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 16th of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Founded in 1977 by a small group of volunteers, the Domestic Violence Crisis Center in Minot became north central North Dakota's first agency to help victims of violence and later added sexual assault, children's, and criminal justice support services. The center opened its New Beginnings campus in 2023 and is hosting fundraising events during Sexual Assault Awareness Month—such as an awareness walk on April 9—to continue supporting those in need.  Minot Daily News
  • Kalix—founded as the Minot School for the Mentally Handicapped—has grown over 65 years to serve local residents by shifting from child day services to adult supports in Belcourt and Rolla and by operating a recycling center and commercial laundry for community facilities. New CEO Chris Haseleau, named Aug. 19, said the organization will host a Souper Saturday Fundraiser in October to invite both clients and the public to share home-cooked soups.  Minot Daily News
  • Residents in southwest Minot will see a Hydro Klean crew install new sanitary sewer liners using a cured-in-place-pipe method that keeps roads open to traffic over the next few weeks. The company advised residents to limit water use and pour water into drains to help reduce odor and prevent sewer backups—crews will send advance notice before work begins.  City of Minot
