COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Wednesday, more than 70 Minot residents walked five laps to raise awareness of sexual assault during Sexual Assault Awareness Month in an event hosted by the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC). • Acting mayor Mark Jantzer declared April 17 as Leif Snyder Appreciation Day in Minot to honor the late community advocate who ran for city council last year and died from diabetes complications on March 12. ECONOMY NEWS

  • The annual report from the Minot City Assessor’s Office said property valuations will increase soon based on last year's selling prices — residential assessments averaged 9.8% and commercial assessments 9.9% below selling prices — so the board approved new adjustments to meet state guidelines for 2025.  Minot Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 1,000 middle schoolers in Minot joined hands-on career activities at a T4 Summit event held at Central Middle School and other local schools. • Minot Public Schools’ activities director Mitch Lunde met with parents Wednesday to explain that Minot High and Minot North will share one varsity and one junior varsity hockey team—player numbers and safety issues do not support separate teams. Some parents said reviewing the current numbers may help grow the program to allow separate teams in the future.  KFYR-TV
  • Students from Minot High and Minot North attended the State Future Business Leaders of America Conference in Bismarck on March 30 and April 1 where they tested their business skills. Of the 41 Minot High competitors, 14 qualified for the national convention while Minot North’s Emiline Acquah won first place in digital video production—showing strong local representation at the event.  Minot Daily News
  • On March 29, youth from Mountrail and Ward Counties showed their public speaking skills at the 4-H Communication Arts Contest at NDSU Extension-Ward County. The 12 4-H contestants competed in three age groups and those who win will move on to district contests in May and a state contest on July 20.  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A petition to call a special mayoral election in Minot has met the 293-signature threshold following Mayor Tom Ross's resignation amid an investigation. The council will meet after the 15-day review period ends on April 16 to set an election date no sooner than July 20—any candidate must gather 300 signatures within a 30-day window beginning 94 days before the election.  KFYR-TV
  • The North Dakota Department of Transportation and Highway Patrol remind drivers that the expanded Move Over Law requires slowing down or changing lanes on multi-lane highways when a stopped vehicle displays flashing hazard lights.
