- ➤ April is the Month of the Military Child, and Minot AFB along with local partners such as Minot Public Schools and the Chamber of Commerce are hosting events like a clap in on April 11 and April 25 to honor military-connected students (volunteer inquiries should be sent to the School Liaison Office). CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Local plane restorer Larry Linrud is rebuilding a 1929 WACO Taperwing owned by Kent Pietsch in Minot—he has replaced its tail section and engine over the past year and a half—and plans for it to take flight by mid-summer. He said he will keep the plane for personal use before eventually selling it. Northern Sentry
- ➤ Western Plains Opera brings Victorian London to Minot with the Broadway musical Oliver! performed at 7 p.m. on April 11th and 12th at Minot State’s Ann Nicole Nelson Hall; the show, based on Dickens' Oliver Twist, stars local talent including members of the Western Plains Children’s Choir (featuring local Team Minot participants) and highlights community effort. Tickets cost $25 to $35 for adults and $10 for youth with available discounts at the door. Northern Sentry
- ➤ The 'Be the Cause of Art' Gala and Art Auction will take place on April 14th at the Depot Downtown Minot to raise funds for a new art therapy program supporting those with Parkinson's disease and mental health challenges (tickets cost $50). The event will feature an art auction, Blingo, Parkinson's trivia, a keynote address by Pam Emill, and jazz music by Eric Anderson with a Paris theme. Northern Sentry

- ➤ Starting Monday, Central Avenue will be closed at Eighth Street Northeast for work on the Mouse River Flood Project, the Souris River Joint Board said. The closure will block traffic from Burdick Expressway to Central Avenue and travelers should use other routes (Roosevelt Park stays open) while residents still access the road from the west (local access is maintained). - ➤ General Thomas Bussiere visited Minot Air Force Base last week and congratulated Airmen from the 5th Bomb Wing and 91st Missile Wing for a strong performance at a nuclear surety inspection—he noted the visit showed the tight bond between the base and our community—adding that his brief time with the Airmen honored their service. - ➤ Local residents can sign a petition to call for a special mayoral election after Mayor Tom Ross resigned Tuesday — council president Mark Jantzer is serving until residents decide if an election is held. The petition needs signatures from at least 5% of voters within 15 days from last Tuesday and will be available at The Spot from 4-7 p.m. today and at Broadway Bean & Bagel on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Minot Daily News

- ➤ Minot State men’s hockey coach Wyatt Waselenchuk said the team added star forward Jaxon Grosdidier from Waywayseecappo for the 2025-26 season—Grosdidier from Sioux Falls scored 25 goals and had 27 assists in 61 games last season and will join the team as a freshman this fall. Minot Daily News
