- ➤ Minot State art students recapped their week-long research trip to New York City where they met with artists and librarians and toured museums such as the Met, Whitney, and Jewish Museum. The students also visited a historic print house to learn the art-making process—an experience that will lead to a summer zine and a fall exhibit—. KFYR-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The N.D. DOT presented four options to improve the Hwy 83—23 intersection after 12 fatal crashes in 25 years and a recent accident that killed horses; building an interchange is the most supported option and could begin once federal funding is secured, though construction may not start for 10 years. Public comments remain open until April 15. KFYR-TV
- ➤ House lawmakers cleared a backlog of Senate‐returned bills today—one bill sets new rules for cryptocurrency kiosks with a $2,000 daily limit, two bills add measures for political advertising that require AI disclaimers and punish misinformation, and another bill allows safe haven baby boxes for newborns. All the bills now head to the governor for his signature. KFYR-TV
- ➤ After Mayor Tom Ross resigned Tuesday, the city council voted to wait 15 days and then choose a current council member as mayor—though many local citizens on Facebook say a special election should be held. A city spokesperson said a petition with 293 signatures will be needed— and Council President Mark Jantzer is now serving until a new leader is chosen. KFYR-TV
- ➤ Farmers must sign up for Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage programs by April 15—measures that help when crop profits and prices fall. Brandi Laframboise noted that enrollment for 17 of 22 commodities is 84% complete and growers can visit a county office, call, or log into their .gov account—programs extended under the 2018 Farm Bill. - ➤ Governor Kelly Armstrong signed Tyanna’s Law on Wednesday in Minot after Minot teen Tyanna Weeks, who was injured last January in a crash caused by a driver under the influence, attended the signing with her family and local lawmakers. The law increases the DUI bodily injury offense from a C felony to a B felony with a maximum sentence of 10 years and will take effect Aug. 1. KFYR-TV
