- ➤ Charles Foote, a Vietnam veteran from Parshall, enlisted in the Marine Corps 56 years ago while in college in Spearfish and served in Vietnam—where he saved a fellow Marine during a grenade incident. He now directs a tribal employment office in New Town and is honored for his military service. Minot Daily News
- ➤ The American Red Cross honored dedicated volunteers at an event in Minot; Judi Leonard — who logged over 6,000 hours of service after the 2011 Souris River Flood — received a pin, and the event recognized volunteers for their roles in disaster response and community support across western North Dakota. - ➤ Two Minot residents, Amber Hattem and Dalton Hattem, were charged with sexually abusing and exploiting vulnerable adults at a local care facility after investigators uncovered videos during a child pornography probe—both appeared in court Friday and will face preliminary hearings in May and further proceedings in June. - ➤ Gov. Kelly Armstrong signed House Bill 1217 this week to change old HIV laws that unfairly charged people with HIV—making North Dakota the fourth state to repeal these criminalization laws and the first in the Midwest. Minot Daily News
- ➤ The City of Minot opened its 10 yard waste collection sites this season, allowing residents with city garbage service to drop off grass clippings, garden waste, leaves, vines, flowers, and fallen apples—while small piles of tree branches are picked up separately on scheduled days. City of Minot
- ➤ City of Minot has opened 10 sites for garbage collection customers to drop off yard waste such as grass clippings, leaves and flowerbed debris — the sites do not accept tree branches, household garbage, hazardous waste or recycling. KFYR-TV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Kenmare-Bowbells advanced to the state championship game for the first time in program history after winning in the first round and defeating Central McLean—they made their ninth tournament appearance and fifth in a row. The girls' basketball team lost to Benson County in the title game. KFYR-TV
- ➤ On Wednesday, Carter Coleman signed with Minot State football, making him the first Minot North football player to sign with a college—he was one of four seniors on the 2024 Sentinels team that won the WDA title and reached the AA semifinals.
