COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Minot’s Wayfinder program helps newcomers adjust by matching them with local volunteers either online or in person. The pilot project by a national talent attraction agency began in 2023 and has already paired ten new residents, and it is open to anyone seeking local guidance.  KFYR-TV
  • The North Dakota State Parade Committee has named Randy Hedberg as grand marshal for the 43rd state parade with the theme 'Small Town Roots, Big Dakota Touchdowns' to be held on Saturday, July 19 in Minot. Hedberg, a Parshall native and longtime college football coach who retired on Jan 29 after a 45-year career, led teams to eight conference titles and seven national championships at NDSU.  Minot Daily News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Minot couple, Amber Hattem and her husband Dalton Hattem, is charged with sexually abusing and exploiting vulnerable adults at a local care facility after a multi-agency investigation found that Amber engaged in nonconsensual sexual acts with patients who have severe cognitive impairments and her husband encouraged and recorded the abuse—with both facing an initial court appearance Friday afternoon.  KFYR-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • On March 19th the Air Force Academy Stellar Brass group performed at Ann Nicole at Minot State where Col. Jesse Lamarand welcomed the crowd with a flag presentation and the band played Stars and Stripes Forever—New Orleans style as the audience stood and clapped. The Brass Band of Minot will hold its final concert Sunday at 4 p.m. at Ann Nicole Nelson Hall with the theme A Bit of Mardi Graz.  Northern Sentry
  • The Brass Band of Minot will end its season with a free concert called 'A Bit of Mardi Graz' on Sunday, March 30th at 4:00 p.m. at Minot State University's Anne Nicole Nelson Hall. The program—supported by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts—will feature marches, Beatles medleys, and reflective works that celebrate spring holidays.  Northern Sentry

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On March 11, the Memorial Middle School Advanced Band went to the Mandan High School Auditorium—performing at the Big Muddy Band Festival—and earned a Gold Award with scores of 90, 93 and 95. The judges also recognized its clarinet, percussion and alto saxophone sections—and awarded solos to Blake Baloga, Lucas Smith and Savannah Kingsley.  Northern Sentry

  • Senior Master Sergeant Anthony Foerster was selected as Chief while serving as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the 705 MUNS/MXW at Minot AFB—his promotion reflects a commitment to hard work and the supportive community that helped shape his path.  Northern Sentry
  • Senior Master Sergeant Joshua T. Shoemaker, who began his career in 2007 working at a Coca-Cola warehouse before joining the Air Force on a friend's suggestion, has been selected as Chief Master Sergeant as he returns to Minot AFB for his second tour—he says he is ready to work hard and lead his team forward.  Northern Sentry
  • Minot Air Force Base’s Bomber Barons from the 23rd Bomb Squadron completed exercise Red Flag 25-2 at Nellis AFB after flying over 30 simulated combat sorties from March 10 to March 21. Col. Benjamin Jensen said the training improved combat readiness—preparing the aircrews for future global missions as they returned home.  Northern Sentry
