- ➤ Jury selection for Nichole Rice’s trial for the 2007 murder of her roommate Anita Knutson took place Monday in Grand Forks - opening statements were held that afternoon as the trial, moved from Ward County last summer, begins its three-week run with expanded media coverage. Minot Daily News

- ➤ Two Minot middle school students placed first and second at the North Dakota State Spelling Bee in Bismarck on Monday. Chilaka Ugobi, a seventh grader from Our Redeemer’s Christian School, will next compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. from May 25 through May 31. Minot Daily News

- ➤ City leaders decided not to co-fund a housing project on a 70-acre parcel near Ramstad Middle School as the cost to build infrastructure on 168 lots is estimated at $13 million (around $87,000 per lot).
