COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Air & Space Forces Association’s David C. Jones Chapter 135 planned key community activities this month, including a Commander’s Choice Awards banquet on Apr. 9 at the JDL center on base and free popcorn for military fans at a Minot State Beaver’s hockey game.  Northern Sentry
  • Minot Air Force Base’s 5th Logistics Readiness Squadron won the Buddy Check Challenge on Feb. 19, 2026 as part of a suicide prevention initiative (boosting wingman connections); the traveling trophy will return in April during Alcohol Awareness Month.  Northern Sentry

CULTURE NEWS

  • Nominations for the Best of Minot AFB Awards are now open until March 1, with voting from March 6 to 15 to choose top local eateries, hangouts, and activities — marking the fourth year of the competition hosted by the Northern Sentry.  Northern Sentry
  • Joe Weigand, known for his role as Teddy Roosevelt, appeared on Monday night after a President’s Day event at Roosevelt Park Zoo, and he will soon perform his Teddy Show + host Brunch with the President at Medora Theater, continuing to offer a beloved local tradition.  Northern Sentry

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Minot cattle producers can use a free online Cattle Comfort Index that measures temperature, wind, humidity, and solar radiation to decide when to feed and shelter their cattle during this week’s cold snap. Livestock specialist Lacey Quail (from NDAWN) said the tool is key for managing care during calving season.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Minot Public School District auctioned former Bell Elementary School last week and sold it for $840,000 to I Help Inc. — doing business as Open Gate Church; a local auctioneer with ties to the school led the sale to save the district money.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Community leaders, Air Force representatives, and local officials celebrated the ribbon cutting for the new Military Welcome Center at Minot International Airport on Feb. 17, 2026; the center offers active duty service members, veterans, retirees & families a welcoming lounge with snacks and TV.  Northern Sentry

HEALTH NEWS

  • Trinity Health will suspend its hospice services in Minot soon, leaving HIA Hospice and CaringEdge to address local care needs. Local staff note that families may struggle to find support until the transition plan is finalized.  KFYR-TV
  • Trinity Health Foundation will host its 5th Annual Fundraising Gala on Friday, March 20 at the Clarion Hotel in Minot. The event themed Heart of Gold will raise funds for advanced cardiac care with live music, dining, auctions + entertainment.  Minot Daily News
  • ND health officials reported that during the week ending Feb. 14, 414 influenza cases marked a decline, yet the virus remains the main seasonal respiratory illness with 29 hospitalizations; the agency also confirmed seven measles cases, urging residents to check their vaccination status — a reminder to stay protected.  Minot Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Minot North athletes showed strong spirit this week (Feb. 10, 12, 14) across basketball, hockey and E-Sports with the girls hosting Luau Night despite a tough loss, the hockey team rallying for an 11–2 win and E-Sports teams qualifying for state events.  Northern Sentry
  • The Beavers’ women’s hockey team won 10-2 over the Maryville University Saints in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Midwest College Hockey Tournament on Feb. 19, securing their spot in the semifinals. They will face No. 1 ranked Liberty University at 5 p.m. in Fremont, NE.  Minot Daily News
