CULTURE NEWS

  • North Dakota’s First Lady Kjersti Armstrong said she was disappointed over the cancellation of Norsk Høstfest, which celebrated Nordic heritage since 1978. She noted her visits to Minot and urged local groups+Sons of Norway chapters to help preserve the tradition.  KFYR-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Minot Public Schools is redesigning the iconic block (M) logo after the University of Minnesota issued a cease and desist letter. The district will survey community input in March to create a unified identity for Minot High School.  KFYR-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ward County Commission approved a lease on Feb. 17 that lets Minot use a county highway building as a temporary dog pound (sheltering up to 12 dogs) for about six months while the city seeks a long-term solution.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot International Airport has opened a Military Welcome Center for service members, veterans and their families to relax and access resources (including a lounge and charging stations) during regular hours. Funded by local donations, the center was celebrated Tuesday with a flag presentation by Senator John Hoeven.  KFYR-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Minot State women’s hockey team shut out the University of Minnesota 4-0 on Feb. 14 at Maysa Arena in a 120-minute game. They will enter the Women’s Midwest College Hockey quarterfinals on Feb. 19 at the Midland Civic Center in Fremont, Neb.  Minot Daily News
  • Glenburn girls basketball Panthers won the District 6 championship on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Minot Municipal Auditorium by defeating Berthold 46-38; the top-seeded team will face Powers Lake-Burke Central on Monday, Feb. 23, and coach Jordan Pederson praised their teamwork+ growth.  Minot Daily News
  • North Dakota native Britta Curl-Salemme will compete in the Olympic gold medal game on Thursday at 12:10 p.m. Central Time, and she credits local Olympians Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureux for inspiring her rise in hockey — a full circle moment for North Dakota sports.  KFYR-TV
  • On Jan. 24, the third indoor archery match took place in Bottineau as 16 Ward County 4-H archers competed in multiple divisions & posted strong placements.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot United girls gymnastics swept the Northwest Stars 134.100-115.200 on Feb. 13 and closed their home-and-home season. Coach Cassie Davis said the team chose events in their final dual and will compete at Jerry Meyer Arena, Jamestown High School, on Friday, Feb. 20 at 5 p.m.  Minot Daily News
