COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ray Curtis, North Dakota’s oldest WWII veteran, celebrated his 109th birthday on Wednesday with cake and cheer at Minot Lodge Senior Living, while Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak honored him on the House floor. The city proclaimed Wednesday as Ray Curtis Appreciation Day — honoring his service and active lifestyle.  KFYR-TV
  • Nominations are now open for Minot Area Chamber EDC’s Impact Awards which honor outstanding community impact, small businesses, leadership and military support. Submissions close Feb. 23 and winners will be recognized at the chamber’s meeting on March 23 in Minot.  KFYR-TV
  • Minot-based Boy Scout Troop 425 and Old Goat Patrol are hosting the Sixth Annual “Curb-Side-Chili” pick up meal on Feb. 19 from 5-7 p.m. at Congregational United Church of Christ at 430 North Broadway + proceeds will fund summer camperships for the Scouts.  Minot Daily News
  • The 13th annual Joel Lochthowe and Blaine Kotasek Memorial Vintage Snowmobile Show and Ride is set for Sunday, March 1 in Deering, with free entry for all. Local businesses and the community center will provide food and crafts, and a trail ride may follow if weather permits.  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A committee is evaluating a merger of Ward County and Minot public libraries to save money and expand services. They met on Feb. 11 and will reconvene on March 18 at 1 p.m. at Minot City Hall (a ballot question could appear in November).  Minot Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The latest ND respiratory report shows COVID-19 cases rose slightly to 295 for the week ending Feb. 7, while influenza and RSV reported 516 and 58 cases respectively. Health officials are reviewing trends to guide public health actions.  Minot Daily News
