COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Minot Park District will celebrate the Fun Zone's 10th birthday on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Minot Municipal Auditorium Armory at 420 3rd Ave. SW. The event will feature cake at 11 a.m. and gluten-free snacks for children and their families.  Minot Daily News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The ND League of Cities announced an annual 'If I Were Mayor' essay contest for third and seventh graders with entries due March 13. Essays must be original and one page long, and winners will each receive $150 and be honored during City Government Week, April 6 — 10.  Minot Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Airmen assigned to the 91st Security Forces Group honed their skills in extreme conditions on Jan. 20 at Minot Air Force Base during the Cold Weather Defender Course & completed phases that included a medical refresher, rope descent instruction and a 12-hour watch for missile field security.  Minot Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Corbin Dickerson joined Trinity Health as director of Legal Services and now leads contract-related legal activities in the region — he brings experience from his military service and previous role as Minot's assistant city attorney.  Minot Daily News
  • North Dakota’s latest respiratory disease surveillance report for the week ending Saturday, Jan. 24 shows a decrease in influenza and RSV cases while COVID-19 cases increased slightly. The data (from the ND Department of Health and Human Services) will be updated next week for the week ending Jan. 31.  Minot Daily News

  • Gregory Rousey, owner of 4R Thrift Store (serving Minot and Bismarck), says more shoppers are turning to resale for affordable, unique vintage finds while supporting sustainable shopping. SPORTS NEWS

  • The Minot State women’s hockey team tied 0-0 against Midland University on Jan. 30 at Maysa Arena, setting an ACHA record with its seventh tie; they won 2-1 on Jan. 31+ with key plays from Cameron Schmidt and 23 saves by Jillian Ackerman.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot United’s Brooklyn Ost captured the 100-pound title with three pins in the Belle of the Brawl tournament in Casselton on Saturday, Jan. 31, while teammate Madisyn Racine earned the 124-pound crown with five wins; the team finished third by placing seven wrestlers in the top six with 179 points.  Minot Daily News
  • The Minotauros were swept by the Shamrocks following a 3-0 loss on Jan. 30 and a 4-2 defeat on Jan. 31 at Prairie Lakes Ice Arena. They will travel to Aberdeen on Feb. 6 at 7:15 p.m. for a weekend series against the Wings.  Minot Daily News
  • Minot United doubled its wins in WDA duals on Jan. 31 with convincing pins over Jamestown + Turtle Mountain after weather delays. They will spar with Williston in Mandan on Feb. 7 at 10 a.m.  Minot Daily News
