- ➤ Northern Sentry, the community newspaper at Minot AFB, invites readers to share local stories to shape its coverage for 2026. The paper seeks submissions highlighting the unique bonds among families and service members living on base. Northern Sentry
- ➤ Minot AFB now archives the final 2025 edition of the Northern Sentry while noting over 70 warm welcomes on icy winter mornings. The community also anticipates the July 4 opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Congressional Library in Medora (a bucket list event) and progress on base projects. Northern Sentry
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ North Dakota’s Insights website now shows public education data to help families and military-connected students make informed choices. It will soon add local STEM opportunities and military scholarship details after Dec. 15 requests – with more information to follow. Northern Sentry
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ UND researchers are examining decades of cloud seeding data to see if hail mitigation techniques can lower crop, livestock, and property damage in the state. The study will use AI and storm records from 2016 to 2024 (if funding is secured) with results expected in four years. Minot Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Airmen from the 91st Missile Wing completed Operation Bully Stick on Oct. 23 near Minot Air Force Base, condensing a week of tasks into 16 hours. The exercise tested teamwork and readiness among multiple units to maintain a critical nuclear mission. Northern Sentry
- ➤ The 5th Security Forces Squadron was honored as the Northern Sentry Squadron of the Month after earning top ratings on a Nuclear Surety Inspection. Their hard work in training 50 Defenders for GLOBAL THUNDER, completing 15+ convoys, and intervening on an impaired bus saved military children. Northern Sentry
- ➤ Aircrew from the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot Air Force Base tested the Kalogon Smart Cushion on a B52H to reduce fatigue during long missions on Jan. 2; they completed surveys during a five-hour flight (plans call for producing nine cushions early in 2026). Minot Daily News
